What powerful lessons we gathered as we walked through this day of debriefing!
It is abundantly obvious that in this retreat environment, God works in double time. We have seen rejuvenation take place in 12 hours that might take months under usual circumstances in North America. We have seen vulnerable connections and deep communication established in minutes rather than in months. It is undeniable that God uses the heavenly potluck of giftedness of these Thrive volunteers and staff to nourish the souls of global workers in deeply restorative ways.
We debriefed by considering what surprised us about their lives and challenges, how interactions with global workers changed our perception of overseas ministry, and most importantly, how our prayers and actions will be different because of serving at this retreat.
All around the circle of volunteers and staff, there echoed a shared pledge that we must continue to demonstrate the same commitment to sharing the Good News of Jesus that we see in the attendees. We must remind one another to pray, to give generous financial gifts, to provide ways for these workers to have rest and time to replenish, to watch carefully that the needs of their children are met, and to ask them frequently how we can care for them.
So, we are praying that as we recount the highlights of this retreat in Rome, others will be stirred to participate in the adventure of the Great Commission by supporting these global workers. How can you do that? I’m so glad you asked!
